Commuter Cycles is Melbourne’s home of Touring, Commuting and Adventure Cycling. If you love riding your bike, whether it’s to the shops, across the Nullabor or deep into the Victorian High Country, then we are your bike shop.
The workshop is the heart of our store. Building and repairing bikes is what we do. Whether it’s something off the shelf or a personal and detailed custom build, our team have the skills and experience to make sure your new ride is all you’d hoped. Alongside our commuting and touring offerings we also carry Melbourne’s biggest range of adventure ready bikes from Salsa, Surly, Kona and Soma. If you’re just starting to scratch the surface of bikepacking and bicycle adventure, our team have thousands of kilometres and many nights out under their belts and aim to make sure your first campouts with your bike are comfortable and enjoyable. We’re as close to a one-stop bikepacking shop as you’re likely to find in Australia.
Commuter Cycles is an inclusive space where your needs as an individual and a cyclist are our sole concerns. We’ve also signed the Radical Adventure Riders Cycling Industry Pledge that aims to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the broader cycling community. No matter who you are, what your level of experience is or what you are riding we’re sure you’ll find Commuter a welcoming and worthwhile place to visit.

Wanna be on the wall at Commuter? Wanna get an awesome Commuter show-bag full of new merch with designs by @symonisms 🙋
We're going to be adding to our already awesome wall gallery of adventure images and would love to see some pics up there from our community. 🙏
Currently the gallery features many white dudes in flannos (myself included 💁🏼♂️) so we'd especially like to hear from you if you don't fall into that category, although white dudes in flannos should still send em over. 👌

"When I started Commuter in 2008 I had a very narrow idea of the problem I wanted to solve - better servicing for everyday cyclists; commuter cyclists that traditional bikeshops typically did a poor job of looking after. I had no idea of how to run a bikeshop, and no idea of what we would become.
In the 14 years since, we have evolved and grown by following our noses, continually adding to our business in ways that cater to our broader interests and those of our customers. Bikepacking and Expedition Touring are now a huge part of what we do.
For a while now, the early Commuter artwork has not reflected the diversity of our store, our community or our team. Symon’s new artwork looks incredible, and better captures who we are, and who we serve today.
On a higher level, the early Commuter was my vision. The Commuter of today is the collective vision of all the amazing staff and collaborators we have been lucky to ride and work with up to now."
We can't even begin to explain how grateful we are for @symonisms and the changes his massive awesome brain have brought to Commuter. 💕
Full reveal in the morning. 🤗
Is this the best bike shop in the world? Probably. Was served by Caff, she went above and beyond to find some obscure shims and fender mounts for me. Their selection is awesome and their staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. A+
I moved into Melbourne recently and needed a new local bike store. Commuter Cycles came highly recommended and I can absolutely see why- I was in and out of here in no time and the service was so friendly. So I’ll be the one recommending this place now!
A big shout out and thanks to Hugh for putting together a dynamo light system. I hadn't booked a time but he fitted it in his busy schedule and also did some work on the bike as well on the house. He was so helpful and very knowledgeable. I would recommend commuter cycles for all your bike packing needs.
The team at Commuter were so helpful! I appreciated how welcoming and encouraging they all were given I’m a relative newbie to the world of bicycles, and couldn’t be happier with my Salsa Journeyer. Super rad shop with an incredible atmosphere, and seriously knowledgeable and approachable staff.
