René Herse 700 x 38 Steilacoom TC

René Herse 700 x 38 Steilacoom TC

The ultimate cyclocross tire is also a great choice for mixed-surface rides. Named after an iconic ‘cross course at the foot of the Cascade Mountains, the Steilacoom uses our revolutionary dual-purpose knobby tread. The tire is always supported by the same amount of rubber, whether it’s rolling forward or leaning into a turn. This gives you uniform grip at all times – whether on a muddy cyclocross course or during a paved descent with ultra-fast hairpin turns. The result is a true dual-purpose knobby that excels in mud and snow, yet on pavement, it’s faster than most road tires.

The Standard casing is our more affordable option: comfortable and fast, yet also strong to withstand considerable abuse. The Extralight casing takes the performance, comfort and feel of your bike to an entirely new level. The Endurance casing is reinforced for extra sidewall protection and puncture resistance, while retaining the speed and comfort for which Rene Herse tires are famous.

The Steilacoom is tubeless-compatible. If running tubeless we recommend using Orange Seal sealant with these tyres. Check out Rene Herse’s guide to setting up tubeless tyres here.

What others are saying

  1. Great tyres for all surfaces

    Peter (verified owner)

I first bought a set of Rene Herse Steilacoom Pass 700x38c Extralight tyres off you last December. I was so amazed by their low rolling resistance and amazing traction on all surfaces from road and hardpack to deep gravel or soft mud or rocks & roots, that I’ve subsequently bought a set of the Standard sidewall Steilacooms for my son in law in Melbourne. My son in law gave me this feedback about his Steilacooms:
“Tyres are pretty wild. Biggest thing I noticed was the lack of rolling resistance, particularly on road/tarseal, and not losing traction up hill whilst standing. To my totally untrained eye, I can’t fathom how a knobbly tyre can feel and roll so well. But that’s why it is my untrained eye. I got a PB up the “unclimbable climb” today. ~120m at 16.7%. I generally only get about a 1/3 before I have to unclip. Today I got about 2/3 and had to put the foot out briefly but got up pretty well.”
I’ve bought all these tyres from Commuter Cycles. I really liked the vibe of the shop when I found their website, and since then I have been impressed with the initiative and adaptability of their staff to overcome the difficulties of trans-Tasman shipping in these lockdown times.
